I tried to read through the wikipedia article on surfaces and found it garbled from the start. Could you provide an explanation in English?
Yeah, Steve, rereading the wikipedia article. I can see what you mean--not very clear. Here is a link to a much better explanation from Wolfram's Mathworld
On the most general level, an algebraic surface is the graph of a 3-variable polynomial. As you can see, algebraic surfaces can grouped according to their order. Their order being term that has the highest exponent sum.
