This is one of the more bizzare websites I've stumbled upon. The kelp-like exhibit you see above is actually a collection of crocheted hyperbolic planes residing at the Institute for Figuring in California. Here's their statement of purpose.
The Institute For Figuring is an organization dedicated to the poetic and aesthetic dimensions of science, mathematics and the technical arts.The institute is kind of hard to describe. They have a lot of online exhibits. One I thought Jesse might like is called Philosophical Toys. They also will teach you how to crochet one of those cool hyperbolic planes. Time to get out the knit sticks!
